Frederik Pohl and Millie

To All My Friends at Chicon 7
The 2012 Worldcon

I’ve been hoping till the last minute that I could join you, but now it’s definite that that isn’t going to happen. You see, I suffer from a serious and incurable condition. (The medical term for it is “Being 92¾ years old.”)

So my wish for all of my old friends, as well as for all the new ones I haven’t met yet is—

Have a Great Con!

Very sorry to hear that, but thanks for the notification; I’ve been wondering if I should bring one of your books since I saw your name in the program.

  2. Chris DeVito says:

    Dear Mr. Pohl,

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for the enormous enjoyment your stories and novels have brought me over the decades. You’ve been one of my favorite writers since I began reading sf as a preteen and teenager in the 1970s; GATEWAY was an instant favorite when I read it serialized in Galaxy (I still have the issues), and I’ve read “The Tunnel Under the World” so many times I could almost recite it from memory. And those are only two examples of many. You also helped inspire me to write my own stories, now and then; a few have even been published. If my writing has even a smidgen of wit, insight, or depth, you helped put it there. Thank you.

    Sincerely,
    Chris DeVito

Hey Fred! Just wanted you to know that I have been enjoying ‘The World at the End of Time’ immensely over the last couple of evenings; just as I have enjoyed many of your other books. Thank you for all the amazing and enriching ideas
    Andy

Sorry you are unable to attend Fred. It does however make me feel a little better about being unable to make it back to Chicago for the Con. i am up on
beautiful Beaver Island and despite having it on my calendar i decided not to return. i had the Con on my calendar primarily in the hope i could finally meet my hero.

unfortunately, that will now. i fear, be next year.

One of my happiest con memories was at a bid party, watching you and Dave Kyle chat.

    We do not come again.
We do not come. Ever again.
