And these fanatics make no secret of their burning desire to flush (what remains of) our Constitution down the crapper. It wouldn’t be so scary if we were just talking about a fringe cult of snake-handling goobers, but this is in fact an organized and well-funded movement, with influence in Washington and the military — remember Gen. Boykin, anybody? — particularly the Air Force.
Now there’s a pleasant thought: Apocalyptic death cultists with drones and nukes.
Previous postings under the ‘bright sayings of bright people’ heading have been sincere, so I confess to being more than a little confused. You’re kidding, Fred, right? Or someone goofed?
The moderators really ought to take a look at this, since I’m extremely doubtful that this posting genuinely reflects Fred’s beliefs.
We need the entire constitution. We need both conservatives and liberals to accept that the constitution intentionally limits the policies they can enact and the amount of power that government can have. Instead far too many pick and choose, and search for loopholes to allow laws that the constitution clearly intended to restrict.
Not a bright idea. All legal documents require interpretation; the US Constitution defines who can interprete it, but the Koran is an open field of endeavor; anyone who can establish themselves as a religious authority can issue interpretations. Do you want to live in a society in which Jack Van Impe can issue legal rulings, including death warrants?
Then there’s the question of amendment. The US Constitution has a provision that defines the amendment process; the Koran does not.
