All the time some of us put in to learn Klingon no longer avails, because the new lingua faana is the one devised by linguistics professor Paul Frommer for James Cameron’s Avatar. With an existing vocabulary of hundreds of words and using sounds that are familiar in terrestrial languages — but not all of them in English — it sounds musical and plausibly foreign.

You can take this post down if you want later. I was just reading over your posts about Robert Heinlein, and you mentioned the experience of seeing the launch of Apollo 17 from a ship with him and many other SF writers and general luminaries (I was rereading Clarke’s 2061 recently and I believe he mentions the same or a similar voyage in the “Ship of Fools” chapter). With the last shuttle flight coming up, I wonder if the time might be right to post any reminiscences and reflections you might have about that unique event.

Seems the Klingons recently held their annual gathering. They may be out of fashion, but they are still plugging along.
