Superb article about wonderful people.
I've been searching for a particular short story by Lester Del Rey about a gentle alien that finagled copper from some rowdy humans and used it to fertilize his progeny that he was growing in a planter. It was elegant, best short story I ever read, and I lost it and can't find it again.
Would appreciate your help.

Affiliate Marketing is a performance based sales technique used by companies to expand their reach into the internet at low costs. This commission based program allows affiliate marketers to place ads on their websites or other advertising efforts such as email distribution in exchange for payment of a small commission when a sale results.

In 1981 I was offered the job as the chief book-jacket designer at Del Rey books. Although most of my freelance
work had been science-fiction book covers, I wasnt that much of a sci-fi reader so although I knew the name of Lester Del Rey I had never heard of Judy-Lynn. Judy-Lynn made such a striking appearance but I honestly dont remember the first time I met her. But as she was a hands-on editor at Del Rey I I worked very closely with her for 4 years. She was tough as nails but very friendly. I once had to deliver something to her at her apartment around the corner and I met Lester. Judy-Lynn and I attended the world premire of Bladerunner together as Del Rey was handling the reissue of \"Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep\". She didnt like it very much. She wasnt a movie person. I left Random House just a year before she died. I feel privileged to have worked with her.

I started buying more than juvenile science fiction either around the time Del Rey Books got started, or shorty before. I assumed it was named after him, it took some years before I realized that he was doing the fantasy and his wife was doing the science fiction.

That was a prime time for science fiction, so much of the older work getting back in print (I assume because paperback publishing was doing well, and likely also because enough of a reader base had built up) and all the history being published, not just your book, but things like "The Early Del Rey" where his early stories were interleaved with autobiographical inserts about those times. Everyone's lives sounded so interesting, not just the collective of the Futurians, but all that time Lester Del Rey spent on fixing up his typewriter or being interested in photography.
