The "River" series was my first SF novel set. Farmer was a wonderful writer and, like many others, will be sorely missed by the SF community at large.
Also, I would just like to comment on Mr. Pohl's blog, I love it! It is so very well written and a delight to read in the middle of yet another dry, boring work day.

Oh no, not another one. That makes ... at least six of my favorite authors dead in the last four years.

This is one of those "sad but not sorry" deaths . . . sad that he's gone, but what a career! What an amazing diversity of novels and stories!

When I first heard the news, I thought "Riverworld." Then through the day, I remembered the odd and kinky stories, and the tributes and analysis of Tarzan, and "Riders of the Purple Wage."

A life not wasted.
